When the Calusa Park in Nokomis gated community was completed in 2014 by D.R. Horton, it did not take long for all homes to be sold. Many of the original home buyers relocated from other spots in Sarasota County; they enjoyed the convenience of living in spacious homes within a neighborhood with easy access to Laurel Road, the Tamiami Trail, and I-75.

Thanks to a large lake right in the middle of Calusa Park, many of the 88 homeowners in this community enjoy nice water views. In addition to spacious floor plans, residents enjoy features such as energy-efficient roofs, modern air conditioning units with smart thermostats, storm panels, natural stone countertops, designer cabinetry, covered lanais, and more. The architectural style is reminiscent of Mediterranean design, and residents enjoy amenities such as a heated swimming pool, spa, a lounge space, and greenbelt areas. As of June 2020, pricing started at less than $350K, which is on par with median home prices in the Laurel and Nokomis housing markets.
Family-friendly attractions close to Calusa Park include the entrances to Oscar Scherer State Park and the Myakka River Forest. Driving to Nokomis Public Beach will take you less than 10 minutes, and you also have Laurel Park near the main gate. You will find everything from picnic areas to kayak launch spots and from hiking to bird watching at these spots. Downtown Venice is also a 10-minute drive away but you do not have to go that far for shopping or dining because Nokomis Village is right down the street, and this is where you will find a Publix supermarket along with other stores and restaurants.
