There is a lot to like about Pennington Place, a gated community located in the southern section of Venice and very close to the boardwalks of Manasota Beach. Although the name of the neighborhood and the streets have a British connotation, the architectural style is the modern D.R. Horton version of Mediterranean revival, which means that home buyers can expect design upgrades such as entrance columns, foyers, tiled roofs, crown molding, and more.
Pennington Place was developed right in the midst of the real estate downturn of 2008. D.R. Horton accurately relied on the strength of the neighborhood and its floor plans to attract buyers, and all models had been sold by 2013. There are 40 attached villas and 134 single family residences ranging between 1,300 to 1,800 square feet of living space. When land was acquired for development, D.R. Horton decided to set aside three forest sections as nature preserves; moreover, the homes were arranged around nine ponds and lakes to provide nice water views.
These days, Pennington Place is a community where snowbirds, retirees, and families can enjoy privacy and amenities such as a heated swimming pool, a spa, and a clubhouse where residents often organize games and social events. The lifestyle here is very idyllic and relaxed; it has resulted in a tight-knit community where many residents get together for cookouts and card games.
As of August 2020, three-bedroom homes were listed starting at $285K. It is not unusual to find listings priced closer to the $250K range, but you need to stay on top of them because they are snapped up in no time.
With regard to local attractions, families will love the charming Manasota Beach, which features sugary white sands and plenty of seashells for collecting. Woodmere Park is just a few minutes north, and this is where you will find a dog park as well as nice picnic spots. Driving to the Tamiami Trail will take less than 10 minutes; here you will find a shopping district with a Publix supermarket, a Walmart store, and various restaurants.
