Ever since the Sarasota National golf course was completed in 2008, a lot has happened to the surrounding area in terms of residential development. Home construction started a few years later, and then the eastern section of Venice was selected for the Westside Villages project, which was renamed to Wellen Park in April 2020.

These days, Sarasota National is the premier golf community of Wellen Park, which happens to be one of the most exciting residential development projects in the history of Southwest Florida; after all, this is where the Atlanta Braves selected their new spring training facility, and there is even a road that connects the golf course to the ballpark.

Sarasota National is a large development of more than 1,000 villas, single-family residences, and golf estates. If you are familiar with the quality construction of WCI Communities, you can expect home features such as covered lanais overlooking the fairways, nature preserves, or numerous lakes. Sliding glass doors, French windows, smart thermostats, and GE appliances can be found in many of the models, particularly those completed since 2019. The WCI interpretation of the Mediterranean revival style is more ornate when compared to other communities in Sarasota, so you can expect homes with plenty of curb appeal.

Property value appreciation has been phenomenal in this community; in 2014, paired home villas were often listed for $210K, but they now start around $305K. A three-bedroom home with two full bathrooms and 2,214 square feet of living space was listed for $350K in September 2020, and this is a very good price for a Wellen Park residence.

Life at the Sarasota National Golf Club is everything you can expect from a premier country club in Sarasota County. The 18-hole golf course offers multiple tee placements and yardage for all skill levels; plus, it is an Audubon International Certified Signature Sanctuary with plenty of wildlife viewing opportunities. Other amenities include a resort-style swimming pool, fitness facility, tiki bar, tennis court, a dog park, and the 19th Hole Bar and Lounge.

A new Publix supermarket and shopping center is located just north of Sarasota National along Tamiami Trail. Getting to the beach is a matter of heading west and driving about 20 minutes; you can choose between Nokomis and Venice Beach.
