Southwood in Venice Florida : Affordable Homes for Sale

The southern areas of Sarasota County have been getting a lot of attention from smart home buyers in recent years, particularly Venice. It wasn’t that long ago when Venice was mostly considered a snowbird destination with a few golf communities and beach condos, but things started changing in the late 1990s with the development of gated communities such as Southwood.

Located in the Plantation district of Venice, Southwood is next door to the exciting master-planned community of Wellen Park, also known as the West Villages of North Port. The location alone will let you know that this nice community is certainly worth investing in because proximity to Wellen Park automatically translates into property value appreciation.

The entrance to Southwood can be found along the Tamiami Trail section that runs east to west across Venice. This used to be a large patch of wetlands where developers chose to keep some areas as nature preserves; what this means for homeowners is that their properties either face lakes, ponds, or greenbelt spaces with mature trees. There’s a community swimming pool with a clubhouse where you can enjoy the many sunny days of Venice. Southwood is a leafy neighborhood where the homeowners association fees cover the manicured landscaping, pest control, cable television, the swimming pool, and the ponds.

Some of the properties in Southwood are roomy villas with two and three bedrooms; the rest are single-family residences. The architectural style is based on Mediterranean revival design with nice touches such as tiled roofs, columns, French windows, quartz countertops, pantry closets, and covered lanais. In September 2020, one three-bedroom home was listed under $280K, but this is a price that will likely increase in the near future because of Wellen Park.

With suburban comforts such as Walmart and Publix just a few minutes to the west of Southwood, it is easy to agree that this is a great neighborhood for families. Nearby attractions include a YMCA, Woodmere Park, golf courses, and the pristine Caspersen Beach south of the Venice Municipal Airport.
