Venezia Park is not only the oldest neighborhood in Venice; it also happens to be one of the earliest examples of planned community development in the United States. Located a few blocks south of the historic downtown district, Venezia Park is the first residential subdivision built in Venice. The history of this classy neighborhood dates back to 1926, and some the first homes built at the time are still standing today. Since the plan to develop Venice called for paying homage to the namesake city on the Adriatic coast of Italy, the Mediterranean style of home architecture became predominant in Venezia Park; nonetheless, you can find everything from Old Florida cottages to Key West homes and Florida ranches in this district.
The overall feeling of Venezia Park is stately and family-friendly at the same time. This is a neighborhood that oozes Old Florida ambiance, which extends to a couple of leafy community parks planted with mature trees. Even though Historic Downtown Venice is just a few blocks away, you do not have to worry about throngs of tourists walking around the neighborhood because they rarely venture south of Milan Avenue.
In 1989, Venezia Park entered the United States National Register of Historic Places, which means that all properties automatically enjoyed a boost in value. If you are into historic homes, or if you are looking to invest in one so that it can be sold later down the line, opportunities start around $450K for a three-bedroom Florida ranch built on a large lot. A corner lot ready for construction was listed for less than $300K in early 2021. There are quite a few historic mansions that come on the market for around a million dollars.
Since Venezia Park is in the middle of Venice Island, the beaches are within bike riding distance. The Venice Shopping Center, which features a Publix supermarket, gourmet burger restaurants, cleaners, a barber shop, and a Beall’s Outlet store, is within walking distance, and the same goes for the Venice Medical Center.
