Palmetto is the name of a neo-noir film from the late 20th century, and it is also the name of a city on Florida’s Gulf Coast that begs to be rediscovered. Palmetto was once a bustling city due to its strategic location on the northern banks of the Manatee River and on the shores of Terra Ceia Bay. In the 19th century, shipping commerce that came to Palmetto was distributed across the Manatee River to the rest of Southwest Florida.
